CIRP Outcomes
Critical Illness Recovery Program Patient Characteristics and Outcomes

What is CIRP?
At London Health Sciences Centre in London, Ontario, we set up a critical illness recovery program (CIRP) with a focus on managing patients with chronic critical illness in a multidisciplinary aspect. We have a dedicated group of physicians, nurses, together with respiratory therapists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, sleep and language pathologists, dieticians, pharmacists who work together addressing the needs of these patients which are interdisciplinary in nature.
What is this study about?
This study will collect retrospective data from approximately 300 patients who have been admitted to CIRP over a five year period from July 1, 2021 to June 30, 2026. The purpose of this study is to describe the characteristics of CIRP patients, the treatments received through the CIRP program and patients' outcomes including mortality and length of stay in the ICU/hospital.
Why is this important?
The critical illness recovery program (CIRP) at LHSC is a unique and specialized program run by an expert inter-disciplinary healthcare team and is the only critical illness recovery program available in Ontario outside of the Toronto area. Given there is limited data available for patients who have survived critical illness and have entered the rehabilitation stage, this study represents a novel retrospective descriptive review of post-ICU patients admitted to the CIRP program.
