PURPOSE
The MAMBA-FT study aims to assess the practicality of conducting a randomized controlled trial of therapeutic normothermia (TN) as compared to no therapeutic normothermia for the treatment of moderate traumatic brain injury in an ICU setting, as well as monitoring brain recovery using the Glasgow Outcome Score-Extended questionnaire after ICU discharge.

FUTURE
If the study demonstrates feasibility of therapeutic normothermia (TN) in TBI patient care, it can better inform the planning of a large multi-centre trial to detect a tangible difference in cognitive outcomes and mortality associated with TN in this patient group. The future study aims to provide evidence-based approaches to improve the current standard of care for TBI patients.
What is MAMBA-FT?
MAMBA-FT compares therapeutic normothermia (TN) to the standard of care for the treatment of moderate traumatic brain injury patients. It is a prospective, single centre randomized controlled trial focused on moderate TBI patients.
Why is this important?
Traumatic brain injuries is one of the leading causes of death amongst injury-associated cases, and only limited treatment options are available. Therapeutic normothermia is the gold standard of care in patient undergoing cardiac arrest, and due to the similarities of injury process in TBI and cardiac arrest (lack of oxygen to the brain), the study proposed to apply TN onto TBI patients.
What is involved in the study?
Patients with a moderate (Glasgow Coma Scale of 5-12) traumatic brain injury who are enrolled into the study are randomly assigned to one of the study arms. Patient's vitals will be monitored for a full 72 hours from time of randomization.

no therapeutic normothermia (current standard of care)
INTERVENTION GROUP:
therapeutic normothermia (maintenance of normal body temperature)
